3 vragen aan front-end lady Lea Verou

Lea is een energieke, zeer intelligente Griekse dame die succesvolle tools als Cubic-bezier, CSS.coloratum en CSS3 Patterns Gallery op haar naam mag schrijven. En ze spreekt vloeiend front-end.

Introductie

Michaelia Komvouti-Verou, zo heet ze eigenlijk, is een front-end web developer uit Griekenland. Ze reist veel, spreekt veel en is mede-eigenaar van Fresset Ltd. Tegelijkertijd studeert ze Computer Sciences op de University of Economics & Business in Athene.

Maar bovenal is Lea Verou een gepassioneerde JavaScript en CSS3 liefhebber! Heeftstijl botste tegen haar op tijdens Fronteers Conference 2011 en stelde haar 3 vragen.

Wanneer ontdekte je de hartstochtelijke nerd in jezelf?

Lea: “I first used a computer when I was 10 years old, and I loved it from the very moment. Around a year later, we traveled to the US to spend Christmas with some relatives there, and I visited this big computer store called CompUSA.”

“I saw there a kind of a graphical IDE called Multimedia Fusion that enabled you to make programs without code, by selecting the commands, conditionals etc graphically. I got so excited with the potential of making my own applications and convinced my mom to buy it for me.”

“I spent whole days after school making applications with it for the next year, and after a while, I got fed up with its limitations so I wanted to learn how to code. I bought a book about C++ but I couldn’t understand it, so I switched to Visual Basic.”

“I got into web development many years later, in 2005 when I created a website with a friend of mine. I fell in love with the quick feedback involved with publishing your code/results to the world so I stuck to web development and didn’t look back to native apps ever since.”

Welk CSS element zou je vandaag introduceren als je de kans had?

Lea: “I have many things in my wish list. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be a current() function that works the same like currentColor, but for every property.”

Wie is jouw front-end held en waarom?

Lea: “Tab Atkins Jr. He works for Google and is a member of the CSS WG, writing new CSS specs. I think he is a genius and he has some great ideas about improving the CSS specification and the energy to cope with the tedious standards process.”

“But there are many other people I admire, for different reasons each. For example David Storey, Christian Heilmann, Chris Coyier, Ryan Seddon, Eli Grey, Bruce Lawson, Paul Irish, PPK and many, many others.”
